Thousands of protester were mobilized yesterday in Baghdad, south of in Iraq for yet another time in the continuation of a 4months old protest, to express themselves against the country’s ruling class whom they demand to step down. Last Sunday the protester gave a one week ultimatum to their government, asking it to see into their demand, but the week has gone by and nothing has changed.

Angry because the government is not reacting to their demand, hundreds of Iraqis had already taken on to the streets of Baghdad before the end of the ultimatum, blocking the main axis of the city and bridges so as to paralyze the whole city and put pressure on the government. They had tendered their request to the parliament, but no move has been made yet, 2 months after the resignation of Prime Minster Abdul Abdel Madi as it is difficult to find a rightful replacement to the position. All propositions made to the protesters in an attempt to replace the PM were rejected. To them, the only solution is an election to replace the whole ruling class which they say is incompetent and corrupt.

Violence in the cities of Iraq that had subsided lately, a new wave sparked up with the end of the ultimatum, with protesters challenging the police, hence increasing the number of human casualties evaluated to about 460 persons dead since the beginning of October 2019.
