14 years down memory lane, still green in the minds of Cameroonians and the world, is the image of 1.88m tall Indomitable Lion’s powerful midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe slumping in the center circle of the Stade de Gerland in Lyon, France during the 2003 Confederation cup.
Foe collapsed in the 73rd minutes of semi-finals match of that competition putting Cameroon against Colombia. He was a key member of the onetime dream team that won the 2000 African cup of Nations against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Lagos and against Senegal in Bamako Mali. Also, he was reputed to be very influential in the dressing room.
The Indomitable Lions, 2016 African Cup of Nation Champion lamentably crashing out of the competition yesterday by 3 goals to 1 against Germany the FIFA 2014 world Cup champion, left football fans thinking that the midfield of the Cameroonian’s national team has staid unfiled with the absence of Marco. Also it was the first time Cameroon appeared again in this competition since his death exactly 14years ago. Back home in Cameroon almost everybody pays homage to the 28years old Olympic Lyon midfielder who took his last breath that sunny Thursday afternoon 26th June 2003 on the pitch were he always plaid his club side football.`
