Most Cameroonians when to the polls today to vote for new municipal and legislative officials in the country. The Municipal and Legislative election that took place in Cameroon today was termed hitch free by observers and international media, dough there was some isolated gunshot and timid turnout in some areas. The elections that started at 8 am this Sunday 9 February 2020 to vote for the country’s 360 local council official and 180 legislators is considered to be very important in the life of the nation, owning to the tense sociopolitical situations that the country has been going through for more than 3 years now. According to France 24, there was a high rate of absentees in Douala, Bafoussam, in the North West and South West region.

In Douala the elections started at exactly at 8 am in the pooling stations visited by PNEWS magazine in the Douala 4 district, all measures were taken for a smooth voting exercise. There were transparent ballot boxes, indelible ink, and the ballot papers for the different political parties in the race; the ruling CPDM, SDF, UNDP, PURS, UFDC, UDT. Also ELECAM officials came early enough to the pooling station to start the exercise on time, and the littoral governor Samuel Ivaha Diboa after casting his vote said, elections in Douala is going on without any incident.

Whereas report says gunshots were heard in Kumba and Bamenda early this morning. This could have justified the timid turnout of the population. The Minister of territorial administration talking to the press after the 6 pm closure of the elections, said the election went well throughout the national triangle.  The results of the twin elections are awaited between 15 and 20 days.
